Student and Community Access: Affordable Synkra Chat Pricing for Students, NGOs and Community Organisations
Synkra Technologies · 25 September 2026 · 7 min read

Synkra Chat is customer communication software for organisations that need a practical way to manage conversations with the people they serve. The standard price of software is not realistic for every organisation. A student building something while studying has different financial circumstances from an established business, and a community organisation, NGO, charity or non-profit may have important work to do without the software budget of a commercial company.
Synkra Chat now has two dedicated pricing programmes for these situations: Student pricing and Community Access.
Both programmes lower the price of the existing Starter, Business and Pro plans. There is no reduced version of the software and no separate plan with different limits. A qualifying customer receives the same features, seats, messages and storage as everyone else on that plan, and the only difference is the amount paid. Students receive 35 percent off the standard monthly price. Qualifying non-profits, NGOs, NPCs, charities and community organisations receive 60 percent off.
What is Synkra Chat?
Synkra Chat is customer communication software that helps organisations manage conversations with the people who contact them. It provides website chat and an email channel, so that people can ask questions, request information and start conversations, without the organisation having to build and maintain its own communication system.
It has a free plan and three paid plans: Starter at R299 per month, Business at R599 per month and Pro at R999 per month.
Prices at a glance
The table below shows each plan at the standard price and with each programme. The full programme details are on the Student and Community Access page.
| Plan | Standard | Student (35% off) | Community Access (60% off) |
|---|---|---|---|
| Starter | R299 per month | R195 per month | R119 per month |
| Business | R599 per month | R389 per month | R239 per month |
| Pro | R999 per month | R649 per month | R399 per month |
Student pricing
Student pricing is for people currently enrolled at a university, university of technology or college. A student subscribes to the normal Starter, Business or Pro plan and receives the student price once their enrolment has been verified. Eligibility depends on evidence of current enrolment, not on age or on describing yourself as a student.
How students verify
The fastest route is institutional email verification. In Settings and then Billing, you enter your student number and institution and select your email ending from the supported options, which are .ac.za, .edu, .edu.za and .ac.uk. Synkra sends a six-digit code to that address, and entering it in Synkra Chat verifies your status.
If your institution does not provide an eligible email address, or you would rather not use it as your Synkra login, you can upload an official document instead. Accepted documents include an academic transcript, a registration or pre-registration document, a fee or financial statement, or an official enrolment confirmation. The document must come from your current institution and be issued in the current calendar year. It must show the institution's official letterhead or branding, your full name exactly as it appears on your Synkra account, and clear evidence that you are currently enrolled.
A student card on its own is not enough, and neither is a screenshot that does not clearly show current enrolment, a document from a previous year, or a document where the name does not match your account. Most documents are checked automatically within minutes, and a member of the Synkra team reviews anything that needs clarification.
How long Student pricing lasts
Student pricing lasts until 31 December of the year in which you verify. If you verify in 2026, it is valid until 31 December 2026, and you verify again for the new year. If you do not reverify in time, your account moves to the Free plan. It is never moved automatically to the standard paid price, so you decide whether to continue on a paid plan.
Community Access
Community Access is for organisations doing genuine, ongoing community work. Qualifying organisations pay 40 percent of the standard monthly price. It is available to non-profits, NGOs, NPCs, charities and community based organisations, including community development, youth development and skills development initiatives, and community support organisations.
Formal registration alone does not qualify an organisation. Synkra looks at the community activity actually being carried out, so an organisation that exists on paper without demonstrable ongoing work may not qualify, while a registered organisation that can show its work has a stronger application.
Churches, ministries and faith based organisations
Faith based organisations can apply, but being a church or ministry does not qualify an organisation by itself. The organisation needs to run an ongoing initiative that gives the wider community a tangible, non-religious benefit. Examples include a soup kitchen, community garden, clothing drive, skills or youth development programme, job support, wellness programme or community book club. Regular worship services, prayer meetings, Bible studies and preaching are not enough on their own, and the evidence submitted should relate to the community initiative.
How to apply
Applications are submitted from Settings and then Billing in Synkra Chat. Unlike Student pricing, Community Access is not instant, because every application is reviewed by a person on the Synkra team. The application covers four areas:
- —Your organisation: name, organisation type, registration status, country, address, and a registration number or registration document where applicable.
- —Your contacts: the primary contact, the person responsible for the Synkra account, and a billing contact if that is someone different.
- —Your community initiative: what it is, who it serves, where it operates and how often it runs.
- —Evidence of the work: photographs of activities, programme materials, flyers, reports, your website or public social media pages.
AI generated images are not accepted as evidence, and submitting them can lead to the application being rejected. Information submitted with an application is handled in line with the Synkra Privacy Policy.
Review and renewal
A decision is generally made within about 48 hours. If an application is approved, Community Access pricing is available immediately. If information is missing or unclear, the team explains what is needed and you can respond from the same Settings and Billing area. If an application is not approved, the organisation stays on its current plan and pricing and can apply again later with stronger evidence.
Community Access is valid for 12 months from approval. After that the organisation applies again and shows that it still qualifies. If the period ends without a new approval, the account moves to the Free plan rather than being charged the standard price. An organisation that no longer qualifies can subscribe at the standard price if it still wants a paid plan.
Questions about how the discounts work
Already paying the standard price? If you qualify for either programme, your subscription moves to the discounted price from your next billing date. You are not charged twice and you do not lose time you have already paid for. Billing, cancellation and refund terms for all plans are set out in the Synkra Terms of Service.
Changing plans? The discount carries over when you change plans, as long as your verification or approval remains valid. A student on Starter can move to Business and keep the student discount.
Qualifying for both? The discounts cannot be combined. If you qualify for both, the larger discount applies, which is Community Access at 60 percent.
Why these programmes exist
Software pricing weighs more heavily on smaller organisations and on people still studying. A student may be running a project, a university initiative or an early business on a limited income, and a community organisation may be doing important work on a small operating budget. Both still need to answer questions, manage enquiries and support the people who contact them.
For a student, Starter at R195 per month instead of R299 is a meaningful saving, and the gap grows on higher plans. For a qualifying community organisation, Starter at R119 per month is 60 percent below the standard price. These programmes mean that cost is less likely to delay an organisation from adopting paid customer communication software.
Students and community organisations use different verification methods because the two programmes verify different things. Current enrolment can be confirmed quickly with an institutional email or an official document, so Student pricing is checked mostly automatically. Community Access depends on judging the actual work an organisation is doing, so a person reviews each application.
